Professional Bio:

• Charla obtained her Certified General Accounting designation in 2004 while working as an accountant in the oil and gas industry. In 2008, she began a career in the insolvency field, earning a designation as a Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional in 2011 and a license as a Licensed Insolvency Trustee in 2012. In 2013, Charla was named a Finalist for the International Women's Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation's Rising Star of the Year Award.
• Charla has provided support under to troubled companies and creditors looking to enforce their rights in a range of industries. Mandates have included plans of arrangement under the Companies Creditors Arrangement Act, Division I proposals under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, receiverships, bankruptcies, and financial investigation and monitoring.
• In 2021 Charla started Charla Smith & Company Ltd. to assist individuals in the Calgary area looking to turn their financial situation around and obtain a fresh start by way of a consumer proposal or bankruptcy.
• Charla is currently serving on the board of the Western Canada chapter of the International Women's Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation. She is also on the board of the Entrepreneurial CPAs of Calgary, and is the Vice President of the Alberta Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals.
