Professional Bio:

Ms. Lamar’s practice focuses primarily on the representation of banks, financial institutions, and other lenders as secured or unsecured creditors in commercial bankruptcy or reorganization proceedings and in loan workouts and debt restructuring efforts. She has also provided representation for the committee of unsecured creditors in Chapter 11 cases, and she represents indenture trustees and bondholders on defaulted issues. Her creditors' rights practice extends to commercial foreclosure proceedings and the exercise of Article 9 remedies. In addition, Ms. Lamar handles commercial litigation matters ranging from the collection of sizable debts and obligations, to the defense of lender liability allegations, to contract disputes, arising in bankruptcy proceedings or in state or federal courts.

Ms. Lamar serves on the Board of the Gulf Coast Network, currently in the role of Chair, is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, Turnaround Management Association (where she served on the inaugural board of the Alabama chapter), Alabama Bar (including the Bankruptcy and Commercial Law Section), and Birmingham Bar Association, having chaired the Bankruptcy and Commercial Law Section.  She is listed in the Best Lawyers in America (and was 2016 and 2020 Lawyer of the Year in her practice area and locality); Chambers USA;  Lawdragon, 500 Leading US Bankruptcy and Restruturing Lawyers (2020); Alabama Super Lawyers (Top 50 Lawyers and Top 25 Women Lawyers) and Mid-South Super Lawyers (Top 50 Women Lawyers, Top 50 Alabama Lawyers, and Top 50 Birmingham Lawyers), and was named a "Best of Bar" in Bankruptcy by the Birmingham Business Journal. 

Ms. Lamar was graduated summa cum laude from the University of Alabama in 1985, with a B.A. in Communications.  Among other honors, she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa.  She received her J.D. in 1988 from the Vanderbilt University School of Law, where she was a Patrick Wilson Scholar, an Associate Editor for the Law Review, and a member of the National Moot Court Team and Order of the Coif.
