Professional Bio:
Karen Engstrom is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Disputes and Investigations in Phoenix. She is an experienced consulting and testifying expert in economic damages, valuation and solvency analysis and forensic accounting.
With more than 25 years of experience, Ms. Engstrom has provided affirmative and rebuttal expert testimony in trial, deposition, arbitration and mediation, including valuation and solvency analyses, damage assessments involving lost profits, lost business value and lost earnings, as well as the interpretation of accounting and other financial metrics.
Ms. Engstrom has prepared expert reports on a variety of damage and valuation related issues in both commercial litigation and bankruptcy-related matters, including breach of contract claims, post-acquisition disputes, accounting malpractice, employment disputes, breach of non-solicitation and non-compete agreements, unjust enrichment, fraudulent conveyance actions and a variety of other disputes. Ms. Engstrom has also provided forensic and investigative services and has conducted various types of compliance audits.
In a consulting capacity, Ms. Engstrom has advised independent parties and boards on complex fraudulent conveyance matters related to solvency and valuation, including analyses of solvency under the balance sheet test, ability to pay debts as due, and capital adequacy.
Ms. Engstrom has worked with clients across a wide range of industries, including construction, real estate, healthcare, financial services, casino/gaming, government, manufacturing, multi-level marketing, private equity, professional services, retail, technology and transportation.
Prior to joining A&M, Ms. Engstrom was as a director with FTI Consulting. Previously, she was with the forensic and dispute practices of both KPMG and Arthur Andersen.
Ms. Engstrom earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Arizona. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV), a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants (ASCPA) and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).
