NorCal IWIRC Members Volunteer at San Francisco Food Bank

On May 22, 2013, several IWIRC members volunteered at the San Francisco Food Bank, where we repackaged rice from 50 pound bags into 1 pound bags. With all of the other volunteers that evening, we ended up repackaging nearly 4000 pounds after two hours, which will feed at least three times that many people. The individual packages will be loaded onto the Food Bank trucks and delivered across San Francisco and Marin to the Food Bank’s supplier network of 450 partner organizations, including 230 neighborhood panties. We had a terrific time and it felt good to know that the volunteer hours we and others put in help save the Food Bank the equivalent of 70 full-time staff positions per year so that more of their funding can be put toward food for those who need it.
