IWIRC Announces 2020 Founders Awards Winners
Stanardsville, VA - June 11, 2020- The International Women's Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation ("IWIRC") is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2020 Founders Awards. Aruni Weerasekera will be awarded the Melnik Award for exceptional contributions by an IWIRC member. Joanne Collett will receive the Fetner Award for exceptional contributions by an international IWIRC member. The Florida Network is the winner of the Ryan Award for outstanding IWIRC Network.

"IWIRC is so impressed with the efforts, dedication (to IWIRC), and accomplishments of the 2020 awards recipients," said Michelle Pickett, IWIRC Chair and Partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Toronto. "We have so many strong candidates for these Founders Awards, it is difficult to choose only one recipient, but the selected honorees' nominations and accomplishments are truly outstanding."

"Aruni Weerasekera continuously sets the example for other practitioners in the region by championing IWIRC and its growth and expansion in Asia," state her nominators. "Aruni embodies the purpose and meaning of the Melnik Award. She was one of the founders of IWIRC Hong Kong 14 years ago and has not only played a seminal role in the development of IWIRC Hong Kong but has also worked endlessly to continue to promote IWIRC in the region."

"Most events run by the Hong Kong Network are generally organised in teams, and Joanne Collett was active in helping in those teams throughout her time with the Network," states Veronica Chan, current Hong Kong Network Board Co-Chair. "Joanne seeks to lead by example, and since rejoining the Board of IWIRC International in 2018, she has sought to increase her involvement in IWIRC, and has continued to support her fellow Board members and women in insolvency more generally in Hong Kong and elsewhere in Asia."

The Florida Network "exemplified IWIRC exceptionally well in the past calendar year, with innovations, systems and programs designed to further IWIRC's mission of being the premier networking organization devoted to enhancing the professional status of women in insolvency and restructuring. We cultivated leadership and strengthened our Network through innovations to our network board of directors, fostered the growth of our members and celebrated their successes through our Excellence Awards and other initiatives, and promoted IWIRC, increased our membership and connected women through fantastic events," states Leanne Prendergast, Florida Network Board Chair. Leanne also credited Barbara Hart, the Past Chair of the Florida Network, for her leadership in the period.
